DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY Overview
Introduction of the Department
The Department of Periodontology at SD Dental college was established in 2009.
It has separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections equipped with modern dental chairs fitted with ultrasonic scalers as per Dental Council of India guidelines.
KEY FEATURES
Undergraduate students are trained with skills to render non-surgical and preventive periodontal procedures and are introduced to surgical periodontal procedures by observing and assisting as procedures are being performed.
Postgraduate students are given opportunity to learn and master a variety of surgical clinical procedures.
Hands on training in various implant systems and clinical exposure to use of lasers is being imparted as part of the curriculum.
Rural community camps provide students with an opportunity to be a part of public health programs.

Advanced surgical equipment like laser, microsurgical unit, iontophorosis unit, electrocautery, implant kit and centrifuge to procure PRF are the additional facilities available in the department.
It also deals with the preventive and corrective measures in the management of gingival and periodontal diseases.
The entire faculty is involved in teaching undergraduate and post graduate students.
The undergraduate students are posted in the department for 30 days. During this time they are trained to provide comprehensive treatment to the patients, including those requiring non-surgical as well as surgical periodontal therapy

Vision & Mission of the Department
PG Program
Vision : To initiate and promote a training program in Periodontology that trains students to independently practice in the subject of Periodontology as an exclusive specialty practice in private clinics, corporate hospitals, educational institutions.
Mission:
Educate by having a clear vision of principles and philosophy of screening, diagnosing and managing oral diseases/oral manifestations of systemic diseases
Describe various preventive periodontal measures
Recognize conditions that may be outside the area of his Speciality /competence and refer them to an appropriate Specialist.
Take a proper clinical history thorough examination 01 intra orally, extra orally, medical history evaluation advice essential diagnosis procedure & interpret them to come to a reasonable diagnosis.
Effective motivation & education regarding periodontal disease maintenance after the treatment.
Perform both non-surgical & education regarding periodontal disease.
Perform both non-surgical & surgical procedure independently.
UG PROGRAM
Vision : To initiate and promote a training program in Periodontology for under- graduate students that aims to acquire the skills for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases as we as comprehensive dental treatment.
Mission
The students shall acquire the skill to perform dental scaling, diagnostic tests of periodontal diseases, to use the instruments for periodontal therapy & maintenance of the same.
The students shall develop attitude to impart the preventive measure, the prevention of periodontal disease.
The students shall also develop an attitude to perform the treatment with full aseptic precautions.
Students should be able to record a detailed periodontal case history, determine diagnosis, prognosis & plan treatment.
